Ringing in the New Year

Every year we alternate who we are celebrating Christmas with. This year it was with my parents so Todd's parents came after Christmas to do a little celebrating.  I love that Christmas continues for over a week.

New scooters = tons of excitement and a trip to the park the next day

My kids love when Papa Gary and Grandma Linda visit. We always have a good time.

Where did this year go?  2011 ending already?  I have loved this past year and all the memories that are wrapped up in it. When I think of 2011 the word Discovery sums it up for me.

We rang in the new year by heading to the Bay.  We celebrated with Grams, cousins, siblings, parents, aunts, and uncles.  Our morning started off in Oakland at the Chabot Space and Science museum with the balloon drop.

Just a little lunch at their museums fabulous cafe...

Back at my Grams we quickly started the beverage contest. Each couple and Grams had to make a drink.  Drinks were judged and a prize was awarded to the drink who received the most likes.

Everyone took their drink making very seriously.

The seven drinks to be judged.  (ours was #6- Frozen Mudslide and it was oh so good).

Grams judging.

Matt revealing the winners who were Alli and Luke. ( Todd and I won second place)-Ha!

Their drink was amazing!  Here is the recipe because I know you want to whip up a batch.

DIY Happy Hour: Cranberry Margaritas

What You'll Need:

- 3/4 cup of tequila
- 1/2 cup Cointreau or Triple Sec
- 1 1/4 cups cranberry juice cocktail
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 1/2 cups (6oz) of fresh or frozen cranberries
- 3/4 cup fresh lime juice
- ice

This will make 3-4 margaritas.

Step 1: Wash the cranberries.

Step 2: Blend cranberries, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 1/4 cups cranberry
juice, and 3/4 cup lime juice

Step 3: Sugar rim time!
Pour some sugar onto a flat plate. Run the lime rind (that you didn't
throw away yet, right?) around the rim of the glasses. Place the rims
in the sugar and gently twist them to make sure the whole rim gets

Step Four: Add tequila to cranberry mixture
Pour the tequila into the blended cranberry mixture. This recipe calls
for 3/4 cup of tequila but we wouldn't judge if you wanted to up that
a bit. Stir.

Step Five: Pour over ice
Place ice in cups and pour margarita mixture into the glasses. Careful
of the rim!

Step Six: Add a "Cointreau floater"
This was my dad's contribution. Use a spoon to gently "float" the
Cointreau on top of the margarita mixture. Or you can just put the
Cointreau in when you put the tequila in.

Everyones drinks were amazing!  Fun to try new beverages!

We gathered around the tree for the kids to open their gifts from Grams.

Weston received his guitar that he has been asking for for over a year.  He was a tad excited.

Sweet Aunt Debbie bought the kids harmonicas so we could be serenaded all night.

We moved on to the cookie exchange...

Some struggled more than others in their baking experience...

My sweet Grandma who hosted all of us.  She is the best.

We rang in the new year at 6:30 pm with the kids.  We pulled up Australia's celebration on the IPad.  Perfect idea.

Kids went to bed and the adults stayed up playing the game Things.  Truly the most hilarious game.  May only be hilarious though if you play with my brother and I.

Do you have New Year resolutions? Do you love a clean slate of a year?  I sure do.

We kicked off the first day of the new year by a tasty breakfast and then headed to downtown Danville.

These five sweeties are the cutest together.

~We will open the book. It's pages are blank. We will fill them with words and pictures. The book is called Opportunity and the first chapter is called New Years Day.~
